How to Blur photo background in Photoshop

Hello everyone today I will show you that ‘How to Blur background in Photoshop’.  here I will show you some very easy tricks. I am sure after this tutorial you can also create some very beautiful images.

You can also use Free Photo blur tool  to Blur photo background.

Steps to Blur photo background

1. Open image inside Photoshop:

Open Photoshop, and go to File -> Open

select your image and click on the open button. You will see your image inside Photoshop but, your layer is not editable because it is locked. To work with that layer, click on ‘Lock’ icon which is at the right side of that layer.

2. Duplicate the layer:

Duplicate the layer bye CTR+J it will create new layer.

change new layer name as ‘image’ by double-clicking on that layer name (make sure that you are clicking on the layer name, don’t click right side of that layer. otherwise, it will open up the styling properties of that layer).

3. Turn off  visibility:

Now turn off ‘image’ layer visibility by clicking on the eye icon, which is at the left side of that layer.

4. Blur background image :

Select the ‘Background’ layer and go to Filter->Blur->Gaussian blur.

One dialog-box will appear, change the radius whatever you want. Finally, You will see that background is blurred now. Click ok.

5. Create a rectangle:

Next, click on shape tool from tool panel and create a Rectangle in which you want your original image. And turn image layer visibility ON. Make sure that your rectangle layer is in between both other layers.

6. Masking of your image:

Now press Alt and move your courser in between the image layer and Rectangle layer, whenever you see a down arrow just click your mouse button and release Alt.
As a result, you will see that your image is inside the rectangle shape.

7. Add some styling:

Now again select rectangle layer and from the tool, panel click on shape icon (or press U: it is a shortcut to select shape layer). You will see that at top-left there is an option for stroke. Click on that and choose white color and set value as 5px.

As a result, you will see that your image have a good border and it is looking beautiful right?.

Note: if you want to change the placement of the image, just click on the image and drag it.

  • And if you want to change the size of the rectangle, just select that layer and press Ctr+t and change the size as you want.
